V7plus FW update issue

Post by rands »

Hello!
My receiver is V7 plus HW: V2.10; SW: V4.2.46.327 from 22/7/2019. I wanted to update to the newest version from November 2019 but unfortunately I could not. The receiver found the file but after choosing "Start" nothing happen. Whay might be wrong?

Sure, it's in the root. I also tested a previous version with the same result. Seems like my unit rejects any fw. Any ideas? Thanks

Try another USB 4/8/16 GB. If that doesn't work try the USB process. Using a 16gb or less empty already formatted to fat32. Place a copy of the firmware in the USB. Rename the file to flash. Put the USB in the box. Turn on the box while pressing Menu several times on your Remote Control. You should see the Upgrade process in the front panel. Wait...

flash.bin recovery is done like this.

Place a copy of the unpacked software (the .bin file) on a USB stick and rename it "flash.bin"
With the USB in the unit, power on while repeat pressing "Menu" on the remote. You must use the V7 remote on the V7.
The unit should reload the software.

Also other users say that you must use a USB stick, not a card holder etc and that stick must be 32Gb or under.
Use the rear USB port on units that have two ports.

I have had units that will not recover.
Try using the same software as was in the unit when it crashed, not the new update software.
You must use the correct software, ie that for the V7HD for the V7HD etc, not software for any other freesat units.

Try even older software as the file for flash.bin.

Look at the LED in the USB stick. When the TV shows the message "USB Upgrade, do not turn off" you should see the LED on the USB flash as the file is loaded.
The USB LED should also flash a few times as the unit first powers on and looks at it.
Also users have said to use the rear USB port for this on V8 units.

Good luck

I did all this procedure so many times using different USBs but it seems like my unit doesn't want to load the firmware, it stays on "Usb Upgrade! Don't power off" and forever. I even left it over night like that. Tried all firmwares for Gtmedia V7 plus available new old.... named "flash.bin"
I also tried Scomtool and RS232Tool using my desktop computer with appropriate files, the tools on my desktop only read the data from my V7 Plus when powering on then nothing happened after. I get the following message on Tcom too when using desktop computer: Please reset the STB!
ROM
MCPU: version:btinit VER 0.0.5_sym:[hg_144_284a746f9d35] Build Time:[May 10 2019, 04:58:15]C$9BBCCCBCV

Not sure what else I can do to get this back to life, I only got less than 2 months use out of it, I got it new on Aliexpress. And I am sure if I get in touch with the seller he will ask to send it back on my own expenses and it might be double the price of what I paid initially. So it's not worth it!
