W177 MTN and A F N

Post by chriswlan »

Hello all!

In the middle of the ocean and have been building my own fiberglass dishes for years, with 2 feeds for W177 and 180 that seem to be the only sats with a reasonable footprint anyways. Have watched the black screen of the powerful MTN sig for years.

jJust recently bought some freesat v7HD, but am a newbee with codes etc etc, and was surprised to see A F N in the clear, so far non stop...

If someone can spare a few minutes:

1-Is A F N likely to remain "viewable" for good?

2-If we lost MTN, and as well their market seems to be motly cruise ships and the like, does anybody know a way for an individual on land to purchase subscription???? [over all the years I never even got an answer from them....]

3-How does the V7 work: just went to "Key edit" and all the entries are empty!!! Is there another hidden location? I'd think after days and weeks a few odd keys have been collected...

I guess it is essential I start to update my firmware!!!

Wonderful to have found this forum!

Chris

Hi Chris

Key edit.
Please have a look at these instructions on Powervu entry and softcam.key files.
The V7 is much the same.

MTN was being opened by Freesat and other units just before the Olympics started and no STB has opened MTN since.
A F N was bigger and went to the net leaving only three channels up on 180e.
Just like all the other powerVu channels, they may be gone at any time.
Use the Audio button to get the correct audio on A F N. Left / right audio.
NHK from Japan left PowerVu last year for a more secure format.
There is stuff on Intelsat 19 @166e C band that you should see.
Others are getting stuff as far as the USA.

Yes it would be nice to know if MTN could be payed for.
There could be issues with exclusive rights of other providers in the same area.
I would not expect SkyNZ to allow me to have MTN as they have the rights for the rugby here.
Of interest SkyNZ have not secured the rights for the next rugby world cup, some one else got it.

What size dishes did you build?
For what little there is on 177w and 180e you could put two LNB's on one dish and move the other to 166e.
Intelsat 18@169e C band has no channels and only one or two TP's now.
I have not looked for some weeks, but there is the French stuff on Isat18@169e Ku band.

Good luck on Nim's Island.

Will PM you some codes.

"A F N was bigger and went to the net leaving only three channels up on 180e."

A F N on 180E has the three channels on 4174 L but also has seven channels 3753 R in addition to some audio feeds. I have my one dish with two lnbfs-one on 180 and the other on 177W although 177 is a bust now that MTN no longer works.

Is MTN on 177W playing on a V8X? I want to know before I start making changes to my setup.

If MTN is the same as the channels that are at 15w, they went to (powervu +), there is no hack.

I have not seen MTN on 177w for some time.
All I see now is A F N, also powervu+.
It may be a lower signal than I can see, but as STRETCH said they went powervu+ a long time back.

I just found MTN is now on 180 at 4095 R 30000. MTN color bars are the only channel in the mux in the clear.

Yes I did see MTN on 180e, but no longer get that TP with my 3m dish.
PowerVu+ anyway.

MTN is likely to move to the new Optus D11 replacement for Optus D1@160e satellite next year as that is having trackable TP's that will follow a ship at sea.
Optus D2@152e is said to go 31 Mar 2023. Maybe the old D1 will move to 152e.

Interesting looking back at this post.

MTN is still on Intelsat18@180e C Band and is still dark as Powervu+.
A F N has 4 powervu channels on NSS9@177w that do open.

Optus D1@160e bird was moved to 152e as it was not going to last for the replacement now due 2025.
They moved OptusD2@152e bird to 160e, I think as it has better batteries to last to 2025.

Hi

Found the first TP up on 152e after the swap of the two satellites, 152e for 160e.

12527 V 5897

No channel.
