I've had my V8 X for a day now. A F N is working perfectly. I haven't entered a softcam or keys. Can it work like this?

Yes.
The EMM used is hidden in the software and new found ECM are added to the softcam, that can be seen if you USB export.
A F N looks like they are changing the EMM used they use, maybe weekly, so you may still need the EMM talked about here.
