Loss of wifi signal in V8 Pro2 (wifi card overheating?)

Post by zapple »

Hello!
I recently purchased a V8 Pro2. The receiver is connected to the internet via wifi to the router. The problem is that after a few hours of use, the V8 Pro2's intermittently disconnects to the CCAM server to which it is connected.
To rule out that it was a server problem, I tried to connect the receiver to the router via ethernet cable and this problem does not happen.
Do you think it's a driver problem? or maybe that is as overheating problem of the wifi card?
thanks

that is weak point for v8 pro 2, heat inside box found when you switch on or standby and the cover plate did not hole or ventilate air.

Thanks Eak_Dumnern
Therefore, by your words I infer that it is because of overheating.
I'm going to try putting the receiver upside down, to see if we get better cooling ;)
thank you!

Running upside down may not be good.
The heat sink on the CPU chip will not shed heat upside down.
Remember the old big box PC's that died if you ran them on their side when they were made to stand up or the other way around.
Heat sihnks work best one way up.

I run a cooling fan underneath my unit. It has 2 fans. Seems to keep unit cool. It was made for a lab top and the 2 fans underneath line up perfect with vent holes in V8. You might want to try this.

Well, the upside down method works great. Since then, I have not had any wifi disconnection.
Thanks for your advices, I will keep in mind.

It seems like every summer some people have over heating problems on their receivers (even other brands)

Best way to help cool them is with a cheap tablet or laptop cooling pad with one or two fans, I got one a couple summers back for about $20 and it has resolved my problems that I was having from running too hot.

Good Luck and Beers to you! :D

Thank you very much for your advices. ;)
Although I know I will lose the warranty of the device, I have risked making some ventilation holes in the top cover to try to improve the cooling.
This is the result.

Now I am going to check if we have really improved the cooling and if we have no more Wi-Fi disconnections.
so far...2 hours ok, no wifi disconnections.

While you had the cover off diod you check how much beter the IR remote works?

Next time I have the cover off I am going to cut the dark see through pannel out so my remote works better, and cut some air holes too. I will cut my air holes in the back panel so dust does not enter the unit. With the front open for the IR remote and a couple of small holes in the back it should cool.

Good advice Feralkiwi.
I have tried the behavior of the remote control without the top lid and it works much better. Therefore, following your recommendation, I have made a hole in front of the infrared.
Thank you
