BLIND SCAN STOPS on Hotbird 13E and SES7 108E

Post by saqibjameel »

Dear Tech team.

My GTMedia V8 Nova blue hangs on while doing blind search on Hotbord 13e and SES7 108e satellites. I have tried a lot but all in vain. I need to power it off and on again to reboot. please let me know how to overcome this problem.

Thanks

I used to get this every so often, when I had a V8 Golden, the only solution I found was to save the channel list and reload it again.

Try scanning TV only as others have reported this works.
You can then rescan using TP search for any TP you do need radio on.

I have the same problem with the latest V8Pro2 software on Isat19@166e for the 17 / 18 radio channels for VOA channels, Voice of USA.
It looks to me to be a end of channel data file problem as I can rescan the same TP on an older copy of the same sat (the added new copy of the sat has the problem). This older sat on my sat list saves the data in the middle of the file where it is already stored.
Scanning a new "Added" sat on my sat list adds the info to the end of the data file.
I think this VOA radio channel has data that looks like the end of file marker that Freesat uses.

Older software did not do this for my local Isat19@166e, while 20190726 update does this.
Channel that does this: VOA radio 17 shows as scanned while VOA radio 18 does not appear and the unit locks.

As far as BlindScan screenshots are concerned,
1221 channels are stored. huge data stored.
It seems that firmware is not expected.

I have already scan TV only and this is not working. Let me try other option of down grading of firmware, other wise I have tried all other possibilities including manual add TP and scan. This is really a bug in your devices. You should give solution to this, other wise your receiver is not good to perform as per requirement of customer / users.

Xsat thanks for reply. I have tried 108e SES where receiver hangs on only 18 channels. My old receiver is saving more that 1300 channels on 13e Hotbird satellite with out any problem. For sure this is either a software or hardware problem of this receiver.

As your sat hangs on TV only, try doing a blind scan with Radio only,
That will find the TP's for you and save manually entering them.

What I think is happening is that the channel data saved into the units data file is added to the end of the file for new channels and the channel data looks the same as the end code for the whole file.
The unit then over writes part of the file or some other data area and crashes.

I Have the same issue with Intelsat19@166e.
If I create and scan in a new sat it will always crash on the same radio channel.
If I scan the same sat in an older part of the list it scans OK.
The data file already has the channel and makes no changes to the file.

I too hope Freesat sorts this.

You may have to manually add the TP's for that sat.
As the crash will be on one polarity only, vertical or horizontal, you can set the antenna setting for the polarity that does not crash and blind scan that half of the sat automatically.

observe such issues sometimes in different receivers, try steps given below
1. Delete unnecessary satellites from satellite list and make some memory space.
2. some times it is also observed that when we updated firmware without "All code" then it happens and sometimes when we updated "Db & setting" many times it leads to crashes....try to reload all data again if possible.

wish you good luck

I blind scan a lot on sat receivers, mainly to find new channels and feeds, with the V8 Golden, the receiver would freeze about every 4th or 5th time I scanned each sat, if I switched the receiver off & on and scanned again, the receiver would still freeze at the same point, the only way out of this was to save the current channel list and then reload it again, this seemingly freed up space to allow me to blind scan again for another 4 or 5 times. This might not be the same as your problem as you have a different recever.

I deleted all satellite all channels all tp everything that I can delete. But even on single Sat it stops scanning.

If you have a User data file from another Freesat V8 box, you could try loading that and then scan the sat.
I found that with a exsisting sat in the sat list, I can scan with no crash.

You also may be able to use the editor to add the sat and all the TP's and load that back into your Nova.

These crashes on scan are annoying, I had one today when I did my usual blind scan for new channels.

I don't have any data file from any other box if u have please share so that I can try... I also try using DB editor. No any luck :(

Not sure but seems that below is the problem that STB is unable to handle

viewtopic.php?f=33&t=8020

I have recently bought a GTMedia V8 Nova satellite TV receiver and I have the following problem:
Sat 99W
TP 3824V4340

This TP has 2 channels with the same V. PID 1160 A. PID 1124 P. PID 1160 and when make blind scan with the GTMedia V8 Nova stop the blind scan and does not scan anymore.

The receiver must be turned off manually as it does not recognize the remote control when this problem is present.

Could you correct it?

Summary:
TP with the same V. PID and A. PID with 2 channels or more does not blind scan and present crash de receiver

What is the solution to this???

I will look at that on my sat that stopps scans.

Good find and report. If we find the exact fault Freesat may fix it for us.

Further I am attaching screen shot of MS excel file showing duplicate values (High lighted in Red) APID and APID for 108E SES7 satellite the most problematic satellite to scan even manually....

you can also verify duplicate values on the following link

If freesat Developers can remove UNIQUE ID check from the below highlighted fields in database file, It may solve this problem. I tried to edit DB file but it is password protected.
