I don't know if they will leave it behind, but you can say that it is the best receiver that freesat has done.

Me too, but the V8 Nova works better and faster and the remote works way better on the Nova than it does on the Super, I am just stating the facts, all the V8 GTMedia receivers work great and for the money they are the best receivers on the market.

Most receiveres freesat are good. But v8 super and v8 nova orange are the best,V8 pro2 are ok.The only receiver from v8 brand freesat make and give problems are v9 super nice receiver. But to many problemas and only few firmwares.

Among the models released by Freesat / GTMedia so far
V8 Super is the best.

V8 Super was created by everyone in this forum.
It is a masterpiece.

I still don't know which model is better than V8Super.

Anyway, it is the best model of Freesat / GTMedia.

Freesat has to keep updating, since it is the best and there are no stocks of it.

Agree, 3 to 4 updates per year may be enough.

With all members putting a input into what they want from a receiver CCCAM / SOFTCAM etc.
GTMEDIA will be able to improve on the V8 Super / v8 Nova and keep on top of the game, because we must remember this is a CAT & MOUSE game.

I have not had any problems with my Super 8 so I have not ever done an SW update. Is there a reason to do one if everything works?

One strong reason not to do any updates - (Nothing is Wrong) !
If (as you said) you don't have a problem with your receiver working correctly and you get pretty much all the channels that you can get then there is no reason to do any updates, just watch TV and enjoy.

(IMO) there are two reasons to do at least (Some) of the firmware updates (Some updates are Hash Code Fixes and some are for Hardware Issues)
1. If a channel or channels quit working (are black screen) that you used to watch and its not a problem with keys, etc, it could be they updated the Hash Code and you will need a Hash Code Update.
2. If your receiver has a nagging issue with its hardware a firmware update listed as having minor issue fixes may help fix the receiver.

(NOTE - The Firmware Updates usually say if they are a Hash Fix or a fix for a known issue)
