V8 uhd boot problem

Post by pcfalo »

Very early software versions had an issue if you set the menu option for power on to stand by, it would not then power on with the remote.
What version software are you using?

Yes, I just did it (install the latest firmware available to date) and then I just did 3 factory resets.
I will notify these days if it happens again, but I have done the same before.

Try powering on with the LNB cable disconnected.

If you have no issues with the cable disconnected, try a larger power supply.
Many users report that using a 2A 12V power supply fixes these issues.
I think at start up the processor is running full and if there is other power use like a USB stick, when the LNB power is turned on the main power can drop and crash the processor.

What kind of LNB do you have? Another user that fixed with a 3A power supply had a multi user LNB that I would think uses a lot of power at start up.

No tengo dispositivos usb conectados
Voy a intentar.

Volvió a suceder.

When you turn on the UHD with the remote, does this then make your TV also turn on from standby?
It may be the power surge as the TV powers on.

If your TV does power on as you power on the UHD, are you connected by HDMI cable or AV?
If as above, try powering on the TV first and then the UHD.

Do you have any USB things plugged into the UHD box? Hard drive or stick?
This will add to the power on surge.

If you have a splitter that is UHF frequency (950-2400MHz, or 40-2400Mhz), try placing that in the LNB cable at the UHD connection.
This will add some impedance and may stop the LNB over current trip.

Do you have the UHF DVB-T cable connected?
Do you have the Antenna power for the UHF DVB-T "ON" in the DVBT menus?
It needs to be ON only if you have an amplifier in the DVB-T cable.
If your LNB / dish cable is shared with the UHF DVB-T antenna cable, Antenna power On can cause issues with the LNB power if you do not have the correct wiring.

Hola, mis ajustes son:
Alimentación LNB: Encendido
Antenna Power: Apagado.
Saludos

Yes.

I used one of those to recover my V7Pro.

Here is a link to the rs232 software.

Here is a link to my report on RS232 for the older finder.
this shows how i made a plug for the RS232 circuit board port.
Note the edit at the bottom about the USB to RS232

Here is a pic of the UHD circuit board showing the RS232 port.

About 2 weeks after receiving my V8 UHD I turned off the unit, and when I tried to turn it on again, I only got the green light and nothing else. I posted several times and also sent GTMedia several e-mails about the unit dying, but no response. (I bought this unit direct from GTMedia.) After a couple weeks and no response to things to try, I just bought a new unit and it has worked quite well. I ran across this thread and decided to see if I could revive my first STB. I was able to use an old audio cable connector to connect to the 3 pin serial connection on the motherboard. It required a cross-over connector to make the connection. I ran the V8UHD Upgrade Tool software using a serial port. I tried to load one of the latest upgrade bin files. The GTMedia guide for updating was great and showed what to expect. On starting I get a message "init stream start ----- done" and then "start loading eprom client ----- done". After a few seconds the message "got set stb memory error, try again". All my attempts do the same thing. Is my unit really dead or am I doing something wrong? How do I get GTMedia to replace this unit? Or am I just SOL?

Check that you have the correct "Port" set for your PC / laptop for the RS232 software.

I made some notes on this at the end of my instruction for the Finder.
there are links in my post above yours.

Did you try older versions of software.

I also found with the UHD that if I had too many file (.bin) on the USB stick, the UHD did not find the file I wanted.
Move all but the flash.bin or the named.bin file as needed off the main directory into a folder and leave just the flash, bin file for the UHD.
