Is the blue tooth always on can it be disabled and just the ir active

With the GT Combo you can "Un Pair" the remote and it will then be a IR remote.

settings / remotes.

You can skip the remote pairing in setup wizard by using the remotes mouse function to point at the next setting in the wizard.
