I have used a HDMi to DVB-T unit worth $US100.
This converts the HDMi signal to Digital terrestrial broadcast that you then receive with your TV in 1080 HD.

As for the HDMi cable length, I don't know.

An added advantage of that dvb-t sender is you can use it to record the HDMi video output of other boxes by recording the DVB-T signal in another device.
I do this to get good screen shots of the Freesat unit menus.
V8 Nova ----- DVB-T sender ----- V8 Golden terrestrial input ----- recorded to USB ----- VLC player screen shots.

My review of the DVB-T sender is here.
One change: I found that you could get many channels with different names if the source channel was different each time.
Changing frequency while using the same channel on the input makes your TV over write the older channel.
Channel names can not be changed, but the manufacture was saying there is a way to do that.
I note there is a place on the circuit board of the DVB-T sender for a USB port.

HDMI is a slippery standard. No max length is listed. Instead actual measurement is required. I think some vendors skip that and just cross their fingers. I've seen 40' listed as possible with really high quality cables. personally I'd stay with 20' or less, especially with cheap cable. My longest (currently) is 12' and is the cheapest I could buy. I was surprised it worked. A friend has a 20' and it works great.

BINGO!!!!
correct answer!
no more than 15/16 feet for 4K then is loss (degradation)

for 1080 you can go as far as 50 feet

There are some companies that make a hdmi to ethernet to hdmi converter if you need long distance video (up to 100ft or so).

I have a tv in the garage about 75 ft away from the house. I use a spare receiver connected with standard coax off a splitter from the house, works great.

HDMI length depends on the cable quality.
I use 20 Mtr amplified HDMI cables for 2K filming without a problem.
I can get up to 60 mtrs with HDMI by using ONE only inline amp and a DECIMATOR bi directional as the second in line amp.
Released earlier this year are HDMI to optic to HDMI cables of up to 200 mtrs, however they will set you back over $350.
You can get around the HMDI security protocol by using a splitter / HDMI stripper available on ebay for only $22.
Otherwise convert to SDI and run up to 80 mtrs using RG6, 150 mtrs using RG11 or proper SDI cable up to 200 mtrs!

Please explain more about the splitter / HDMI stripper?
Here in NZ SkyTV set top boxes shut down the HDMI if you plug in a DVB-T modulator that I use to extend HDMI.

Is this the box?

Yes that is one that will remove the HDMI handshake requirement. Once removed you can do want you want with the HDMI including recording to a game capture device for example. "locks are there only to keep honest people out" Did I actually just say that?

A search on ebay will display this unit which I have tested to work 100%.
Scroll down until you see this picture as I don't want to insert an ebay link here due to forum rules regarding advertising.

Just can't stand the intense bright blue leds in it, so out with the black tape!

I use the HDMI switch to select the signal source. Then the signal is sent to the active HDMI 4K splitter.
I peel up to 25 meters on 4 devices
