What is "multistream"?

Post by bwe »

Can someone explain to me what is "multistream"? Are there multistream channels in the North American sky, from 43w to 139w? Thanks a lot guys. :D

Multistream is used by TV companies to send multi sets of TV channels to many cities using one TP.
This saves costs etc.
So the "Stream" has 4, 5 or 6 "streams" in the TP.
My local multistream TP has Melbourne, Perth, Brisbaine and Adelaide, with 8 channels in each stream.
When received, these streams are then resent on to DVB-T.

In days before, they would have had a TP per city, a much higher cost.
I have not heard of a scrambled multistream as yet.

The latest in my area is on Optus D1@160e and has ABC Auzzy feeds on it. 12470 H 47300, six streams.
It has been received in Indonesia, but sadly I do not see it here in NZ.
