Problem with HUGE video distortion on some Astra 19.2E transponders

Post by oiluj »

There are some channels/transponders on Astra 19.2E with HUGE video distortion when using a GTmedia GTC or GTS pro.

These channels/transponders are (right now):
- Channel "Telesur HD" on TP 11377V (FTA)
- All channels on transponder 10936V
- All channels on transponder 11259V

Also, there were 2 transponders that had the problem. The same way it appeared... it disappeared. These are 10818V (from Feb-4th to 8th) and 10906V (from Feb-11th to 12th)

The problem seems to be related to the codecs/bitrates/etc. on Amlogic chipset.

Look at these graphs:
10818V, affected from Feb-4th to 8th):

Code: Select all

http://digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?mux=10817&liste=1&live=61&lang=en
10906V, affected from Feb-11th to 12th):

Code: Select all

 http://digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?mux=10906&liste=1&live=61&lang=en
There you can see the "anomaly" very clearly.

Now, the transponders that started failing, and they are still failing:
10936V, failing since Jan-28th:

Code: Select all

 http://digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?mux=10935&liste=1&live=61&lang=en
11259V, failing since Feb-5th:

Code: Select all

 http://digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?mux=11258&liste=1&live=61&lang=en
Somehow, when the sum of bitrates of every video PID in each transponder is not constant... the receiver becomes crazy and can't handle it. And then we have the HUGE video distortions.
If the sum of bitrates of the video PIDs in one transponder is constant... then everything is OK, and the Amlogic chipset does its job correctly.

To Freesat/GTmedia people: please release a firmware update that fixes this problem.

Thank you.

Today, the problem disappeared. The same way as it came: doing nothing.
Right now, Astra 19.2E TPs 10936V and 11259V (the ones that were still failing) are OK.

Tomorrow, when they update all those graps, we will see that the sum of bitrates of all video PIDs (in each transponder) are constant again.
So:
- Transponder 10936V failed since Jan-28th till Feb-13th
- Transponder 10818V failed since Feb-4th till Feb-8th
- Transponder 11259V failed since Feb-5th till Feb-13th
- Transponder 10906V failed since Feb-11th till Feb-12th

What happened? Who knows...

Now, sound problems appeared in 10906 V. In some devices it could be solved by changing the audio options

So its not a problem with the GTC/GTS series, it is something Movistar is doing to weed out piracy... something similar happened on this side of the ocean with Dishnetwork, they would make some changes and see how many complaints they got from legal subs... that way they could see which OEM boxes were being affected. When they were sure their modifications were good then they would implement. Then it's up to the devs to figure it out. Cat and mouse game.
My earlier comment about not having problems with my GTC on 125w, only on low signal level, is a valid comment... although it was scoffed at by some. If this problem returns then please send more TS recordings of the transponders affected (V7 & V8 series can make the TS file) and possibly a short video to demonstrate the effect on the TV. I doubt the devs in Hong Kong can receive 19.2E. Thank you.
