Picon - TV-Logo files

How to import the logo:
1. The recommended size of the logo is 512X512
2. Need to put a folder named tv-logos in the root directory of the U disk
3. Put icons in the tv-logos folder. The icon format supports png and jpg. The name of the logo must be the same as the name of the channel.
Hi

I have found you can name the files with more than just "tv-logos".
I have started mine as :
"tv-logos NZ Extended" and
"tv-logos NZ Freeview".
When you press red for import all the files that start with "tv-logos" show for selection.

Importing a file that has the same icons as another folder does not duplicate up the icons.

I have found that using files with 200 x 200 bits is OK.
Maybe the upper limit is 512 x 512.

Things that are a problem:
1:
I have a satellite channel called "Prime" and a DVB_T channel called "PRIME".
The file system will not allow both as the file system is not case sensitive.
Solution for this, rename one of the channels on the set top box.
I found another solution:
Place one file in one folder and the other in another folder. Load both folders of icons and the Android system keeps both.
Note: If you export both of these files "PRIME.png" and "Prime.png" from the Icon menu (Blue button), the FAT32 system only saves one.
I found another better solution:
I found that I can place one folder inside another and the logo loads from there.
So "tv-logos NZ Freeview" folder now has "tv-logos NZ PRIME" with the capital letter logo for PRIME.png.
2:
XXXX I have another channel called "RACING.COM"
XXXX Again the file system does not allow this.

XXXX This was a result of the way I saved the file from Paint. Two dots are OK.
3:
Again the file system.
I made changes from "7Mate" to "7mate" and then copied and pasted the folder on to my USB.
The file system asked as usual to replace the changes, but did not save the new filename with the changed lower case letter.
4:
Please can the option to choose a channel for a Icon (Pressing the "Menu button while in the Icon menu) use the current channel and or the current list, not the "All Channel" list.
Holding down the down arrow button to scan through the All Channel list crashes the app.
I found a way to make this easy.
Go to the "All" channel list and change a channel name at the start of the "All" list to the one you want.
eg I changed "Hope Channel" to "PRIME"
Then I could change the Icon I had set to "PRIME_.png" to just "PRIME.png" using the menu button function in the icon menu.

Things that would be nice to have:
1:
Could we have a wild card?
If * is the wild card, naming an icon as "BBC*" so any channel that starts with "BBC" uses the icon.
The * can not be used as Windows file system does not allow these characters \ / : * ? " | < >
This would need to be a systems second choice so the a channel named "BBC World News Asia Pacific HD.png" would use the icon named that.

I would like to have a section for these files on the forum
I would suggest these formats for file content:

1: Country set FTA
2: Country set extended
3: Satellite set
4: News channel set

If other countries are like mine then the channel names are different on DVB-T and satellite so two of some are needed.
Also some may have case issues like my Prime and PRIME above.
I suggest a text file included in each folder with any odd things to note.

It is a lot of work setting up these icons so a share forum here would help.

Owen

Edited, correction on TVNZ 2 +1
Also added Auzzy as seen from NZ channel icons
Added NZ PRIME.zip folder to load the DVB-T second Prime file as noted above.

31 Dec 2021: Added NZ Transparent and Extended Transparent and Auzzy Transparent.
Load sat lists first and Transparent last to over write any duplicates.

As I understand it, these are just logos and you need to make a picon for a 200x200 channel and sign it according to the channel name? Let's try to do it. I make picons for Enigma2 (200x132), maybe they will go for this receiver as well. I just didn't understand the location of the picons in the receiver. We will read. An interesting topic.

Feralkiwi, Is it possible to make the file size (picon 200x132)?There are many ready-made icons on the Internet with a size of 200x132 png icon. You just need to rewrite the picon according to the channel name. I posted two picons 200 x 200 and 200x132 for comparison.

Yes all sizes seam to be OK.

I would think the recommended maximum size is the 512 x 512.

The file cpr43 posted has many not even square.

I have tested and yes non square work.

200x132 work OK and center and leave black top and bottom.
Smaller work OK too.
All display the same width.
It all works very well.

Just watch the channel names. I had some that looked like "DEFAULT" but had three spaces "DEFAULT___".

The "Export" from the Icon menu saves a folder that looks like this. "tv-logos-2021-12-26-21-05-10"
The numbers are date time.

It would be nice to have the Picons in the channel lists, but that area is already cluttered and SLOW.

Trying to find if I can make transparent icons, no background color.

Yes Transparent works. The icon shows with the TV picture showing through it.
Found an online tool.

Code: Select all

Not as yet.
I do not see those satellite so will not make a file for there.

What I did was look for a TV Guide website like this

Code: Select all

https://nocable.org/tv-listings/zip/47834-brazil-in/
I then copy the image for each channel and paste it into Paint and name it to match the channel and save.
Look for a site with small size icons so you do not use too much memory. The site above has very large pictures, not so good.

Feralkiwi, why not all picons are saved when copying to a media. I have only 170 channels out of 291? And it is not possible to register a picon with this name on the Viasat Nature/History HD channel. Thanks.

Hola, probablemente el error sea el nombre que tiene el canal en el deco, si te fijas viene separado por un / y en los iconos no lo tienes, debes llamarlo exactamente igual para poder hacerlo.

I see the problem now.

The windows file system does not allow for \ / : * ? " | < > to be used in a file name.
It also will not allow for PRIME and Prime in the same folder.
I will try to see if the Android system will allow these characters to be used in the icon manager by matching them with the TV channel.

If that does not work the only way for Icon match will be to rename the channel name in the user file / on the box.

Owen

Edited:
I did some tests.
I changed the name of channels to include these \ / : * ? " | < > characters.
Oddly most would allow for the Icon Manager to pair them with a icon.
Of note is the one that kladovchk had in his channel, the /
Even after pairing these Icons, if you export them the file system will again not allow them.
My idea at the start of this thread for a wide card using the * is a non starter because of this.

That unit likely uses a internet server they have set up with known channel names and icons.

I found it easy to do.
I went to lyngsat dot com, clicked on each channels name to bring up the channel page and copied the icon picture.
You can also use Google images and the channel name.
I then paste it into Paint, crop and save with the channel name.
To pair these icons I then saved my user data file (User DB) and only scanned in the satellite I was working icons for.
This makes it very easy in the icon manager to pair any channel icons with the incorrect channel name.
Once done I deleted any un used icons and exported the file and renamed it as the satellite.
Satellite by satellite I made a set of icon files for my region.
As time passes other users will do this for other satellite and a list of icon files will be available on this forum.

Yes i have tried and success to import picons from my usb drive, i have set all picons for asia sat 5 from lyngsat. No need any modification, stb auto rename the channel. I am satisfied.
It would be more better if it will happen auto from gtmedia server like biss auto😀😀😀
It would make it as lot easier if when you select an icon in the icon manager that when you press the menu button to pair it, the system went to the current channel in the current list, not the all channel list.
Even a a,b,c,d,e,f, etc select would help.
