Android TV Experience

Post by oscarsanchezdm »

Hi
I'm trying to get Android TV features in the xxxxx GTC.
What I've got:
- Leanback launcher working
- Play Store/Music/Movies installed. I can log in but I can't install apps (it says Install pending). I'm working on it.*
- Google Cast appears on Settings, but my phone does not detect it. I think that there are libraries missing, I'm studying logs.
- Other Leanback apps work (Spotify, Popcorn time, etc.)

How I've managed to do it:
- I have modified build.prop to simulate a Sony Bravia 2015 TV.
- I have dowloaded gapps for Android TV (6.0.1 version, arm). I've uncompressed files (using lzip and tar). I've pushed them to GTC via adb, copied on their right location and changed their permissions.
- I have removed some non-Android TV apps (Phonesky, PreBuiltGMS, GoogleLogin service)
- I have added two XML of android TV on /system/etc/permissions

If anyone knows a better way to do it (flashing gapps or something), I will be very appreciated! Flashing gapps zip gives me an error (error 64. It means incorrect architecture but I think the one that I downloaded it's okay [arm]), but maybe there is a way to solve it!

VERY IMPORTANT: if you want to try to do it, BACKUP YOUR STUFF (channel list, etc.). It is very probable that you'll get a bootloop and you'll have to restore your system via recovery (pressing MENU button after connecting and disconnecting the power cable)

*It seems that PackageInstaller is causing the problem. If I remove it (and do not install anything more) I get a bootloop.

Hi again
I got Play Store working! Here you can see my homescreen :D
Image

To sum up: what's working:
-> Leanback launcher
-> Play Store (old version, from 2017) [TV version]
-> Play Music [TV version]
-> Play Games [TV version]
-> Voice input
-> Leanback keyboard
-> App recomendations (from YouTube, GP Movies, PopCorn time, Kodi v18, Spotify, ...)

What's working partially
-> "Google Cast": I can send YouTube videos from my phone to the app. Other media sources do not work with Google Cast.

What's not working
-> Remote control (I mean using Android TV remote app in my Android Phone)
-> Google app (I can read in the log an SQL error while it's trying to open the config DB file inside of /data/user/0/com.google.android.katniss. However, google keyboard search works)
-> Live channels. I think changing to an older version would repair it, but I am not interested in getting this app working.

--

TV apps that I've tried and work well:
- Spotify, TV App Repo, Firefox, Accuweather, some games such as Crossy Road...

TV apps that do NOT work
- Amazon Prime Video (apk extracted from the Internet because only the Nvidia TV box is supported): I can log in, but videos do not play.
- Fast like a fox game. It does not install :?

Hi! I have updated my GTC to the latest firmware. This is what is working and what is not:
Working:
- Android TV launcher
- App recommendations
- Google assistant (only in English, in spanish it won't work at 100%). You need a microphone, I use a webcam.
- Play Store, Play Games, Play Music and Play Movies. Play Movies app crashes sometimes, I think it crashes when it syncs with my Google account.
- Other apps such as Spotify, Kodi, Firefox, Popcorn time (Android TV version), etc.
- YouTube. The latest version is not working, it crashes when I try to open it.
NOT working:
- Google Cast. I can only cast videos from YouTube app on my phone syncing my phone previously with a code.
- Google Remote app. It needs Android 7.
- Netflix (Android TV version) won’t open.
- Amazon Prime Video
- OTA updates: if you want to update the firmware, you need to flash the latest ROM uploaded in this forum and then update the firmware.

What have I done:
- I have extracted an opengapps package, and I have changed some apk’s (Play Store and the NoTouchAuthDelegate app) with others that works on the GTC. Download link:

Code: Select all

https://mega.nz/#!fMkFhBgZ!ePkgqBVVTU4fWrgTBblYDcvk5_LR_h7jIEBDDyICxsI
- Modified system apps and build.prop version, and changed some system files.

Instructions:
NOTE: I am NOT responsible of data loss, device breakings or other things. I am just sharing what I have done.
- Download the ADB platform tools (

Code: Select all

https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
) and extract the gappsOK.zip content inside a folder also called gappsOK.
- NOTE: my GTC’s IP address is 192.168.1.128
./adb connect 192.168.1.128
./adb push gappsOK/ /sdcard/
./adb shell
su
mount –o rw,remount /system
cd system/
cp -R /sdcard/gappsOK .
cd gappsOK/
chmod 755 *
chmod 644 build.prop
chmod 755 */*
chmod 644 */*/*
chmod 644 lib/*
chmod 644 framework/*
cd /system/app
rm –R Google*
rm –R YouTube*
cd ../priv-app
rm –R Google*
rm –R Phonesky
rm -R PrebuiltGmsCore
cd /system/gappsOK
cp –R * ..
reboot

Code: Select all

Hi
I'm trying to get Android TV features in the Freebox GTC.

*It seems that PackageInstaller is causing the problem. If I remove it (and do not install anything more) I get a bootloop.
I think it's going to be very difficult
Because I have read about it in many article forums and I don't think they have all succeeded yet.
I wish you best of luck

Greetings :D
congratulations for the work done.
Having been a long time since the publication of the last post, however, I would like to know that this project has been developed or if it has been abandoned.
Is there a complete ROM with Android TV to load on the device?
I have two GTCs and would like to modify one of them by loading Android TV.
I think it would be more convenient and faster with Android TV.
Thanks for any reply. ;)

TV celebrates content by making it front and center. Whether you’re looking for movies, games, or TV, it’s about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction.
