V9 Prime channels for Freeview

Post by Lycanthrope »

Hi, I'm on a learning curve here after buying a V9 Prime, I have a few questions I hope you can help with please?
I am in the UK and currently want to watch Freeview channels.

1) I have selected the Ku_Astra 2 E/F/G entry which I reckon is Freeview, and got lots of expected channels. However, is there a way to match the channel numbers with those shown in the various TV programme guides, e.g. Radio Times?

2) I remember seeing this device advertised somewhere as being capable of series recording (via EPG). Is this actually possible?

3) I tried to upgrade to firmware V1.89 (GTMedia_V9Prime_V189_20230802.bin), from the GTMedia website, but just get "Invalid file" on the box. Any help here please?

4) I'd like to program in my (Sony) TV power and volume commands to the remote, but the manual just does not make any sense to me, help please?

Best Regards...

I do not have this GTMedia model, but have others.
Can help with some of your questions.
1. You are not able to scan the channels into the receiver as per the (Freeview) channel list.
Have a look at (FLYSAT) have a look at the transponders for 28e, which will be in the same order as your receiver.
That will be the order the channels will be scanned in. When doing a scan, within the settings put (FTA).
To put the channels into the order that you require can be done via (Channel list) Edit, this will take a bit of a while to carry out, when done save
to a USB, THIS WILL BE YOUR BACK-UP channel list.

2 Not sure about this, other users may be able to confirm

3 The latest software for this receiver is V205 16 July 2024, when you update, make sure it is the ( bin file), and it is the only file on the USB.

4 On the remote at the top, it may have four keys with a white line around them (v+ / v- / tv@ / SET), on the back of the remote should
be a label with a operation guide.

If you went for the V7 Pro, V8UHD, or even the V8 Turbo you could both, Freeview from your Aerial, Freesat from the satellite.

If you are not sure on things, just post in the forum, users will forward with answers

Thank you STRETCH,

1. Setting FTA on just seems to ignore scrambled/encrypted channels. Editing seems really difficult, I just don't understand "lock", edit" etc at the moment. Setting favorites is also hard to do.

3. Success with upgrade, as you said, the .bin needs to be the only file on the USB!

4. After a lot of frustration (the instructions saying "enter learning mode" twice is just confusing, as is "the button to learn..."
I got there by placing the two remotes right together, touching each other.

The EPG is totally useless, but I did manage to get a recording done (although a couple on minutes at the beginning and end were chopped off).

Thanks again,
Cheers, L.

With you saying that you require the (Freeview / Freesat) channels which are (FTA), does mean that when you carry out a scan,
it will NOT scan in the (Scrambled / encrypted) channels which you will not require, plus you will have less channels to edit.

What part of the UK, are you based, for when you edit your channels, you will need the channels for your area for local news etc.
The EPG will not be on par with a Freeview / Freesat stand alone boxes.

Using the Search Box, Top Right, you should be able to find threads on how to Edit channels, on your receiver,
or other receivers which may help, and explain in more detail on how it is done.

Do not rush in doing things, that is when mistakes can happen, just take your time.

Just come back to the forum, users will help.

Have had a look at another GTMedia to see if i could find some detail to help you on how to (Edit) your channel list.
With you having scanned in channels onto your receiver, there will a lot of channels that you will not require.
See if you can find the (Channel list), First Menu then move the curser left or right with the arrows on the remote until you come to (Channel list).
You could try this, Menu / Channel List / OK / (The Curser will be on the last channel viewed) at the top of the screen will be four options, the one we will be looking for first will be the (Blue) (Edit), Press Blue on the remote, then (DEL) will appear, Press Blue again, a small window should appear
with the Curser on "Del Pg by one by one" this is the one that you require, Press OK / this will put a "X" against the channel that you were viewing,
(if this channel is one that you do not wish to Delete just Press OK on the remote). Move the Curser to one of the channels that you require to
be deleted then Press OK on the Remote, then move the Curser to the next channel to be deleted then Press OK, continue to do a few until you get
use to doing this, then try a few more. Then Press Exit Twice on the Remote, a small window will appear (Are you sure to save) Move the Curser
to (Yes) then OK, the channels will then be deleted, Exit out.

The next part is to Move channels within the Channel list.
Again Menu / Channel list / OK / Depending on what the last channel you were viewing the Curser will be on that channel.
At the top of the screen you will see the (Yellow /Move) tab, on the Remote Press the Yellow key, which makes the Yellow tab on the screen
Bigger.
So after scanning your satellite and getting ALL FTA channels, then DELETING the ones that you do not require, you then start to move the rest.
So say you have got BBC 1 HD MIDS at number 99 on your channel list, you want to Move this to Number 1 on your list.
Move the Curser to (BBC 1 HD MIDS) number 99 with the up/down arrows on the remote, then Press OK , Two Arrows Heads WILL appear,
now with the Arrows move this to Number 1 on your channel list, then Press (INFO) on the remote, the channel will then Move to the NEW Number.
It will still have the Two Arrow Heads, you then Press Yellow on the Remote, which will Remove the Two Arrow Heads, then Press Exit.
A Small window will appear (Are you sure to save) Move the Curser to (Yes) then OK, Then Exit out.
Try this a few times to get use to the system, i know it is long winded, but it will be worth it in the long run.

That is just moving one channel at a time, now we get onto moving a few more/lot of channels.
Carry out the above, but when you get to the part After the channel has moved and you Press Yellow on the remote to Remove the Arrow Heads,
Move the Curser to next channel or channels that are next to each other to be Moved, then Press Yellow on the Remote again, then OK for the Arrow
Heads to Appear Move the Curser to the Number Required, Press INFO, all channels will then MOVE, then Exit / Save / Exit.
