When I search for channels, I am restricted to 5000 tv channels only. This means deleting some to find others.
Is there a way to increase this number using an external hard drive or memory stick?

No there is no way to extend the amount of channels.
Many of the channels you have will be scrambled. You could delete these and use the FTA (Free To Air) only option in the search function so you keep you list smaller.
