V8 finder broken after using shorted sat cable

Post by PeterPaul »

Hello,
I have successfully used my V8 finder twice. Yesterday, however, I unfortunately connected a defective satellite cable with a short circuit. The V8 finder began to smell strongly and since then the display has shown 'short circuit'. The unit still works, but no reception can be detected since then. However, I have not opened the unit yet. Some component seems to have burnt out. What could it be?

Most likely the power supply for the 13/18 volts for the LNB.
The short circuit protection should have protected the unit from that, but it does reconnect to test if the short has cleared and that over time will heat the circuits.

The 13/18 volt circuit is just outside the LNB RF metal box.
Good luck fixing it as these circuits are very small.
