Re: Finding Sats
What I ended up doing for the time being is to take the motor off the actuator rod part and install the actuator arm by itself. I then took the part that went into the rod part of the actuator and used my cordless drill to move the satellite if I want to. I also put two lnbs on it. I am going to to install one more lnb and I should be good for a while.

Re: Finding Sats
This is a project I have done some time ago. I am still using it. I can get all the sats in the range of 35E to 120E with this.Murf006 wrote:Without a motor to turn the dish what is the easiest way to satellite hop to multiple satellites
These are the pictures of the project. I think it s self explaining. With two nylon threads I can move the dish to the required position.
Re: Finding Sats
Do you have markings on the nylon threads that tell you how much to pull them for a particular sat position or do you use a signal meter whenever you want to change satellites?

Re: Finding Sats
For weaker ones it has to be fine tune with signal strength.
Re: Finding Sats
I was trying to go along the arc and see how many satellites I could pick up. When moving the actuator I came to part of the arc where the signal quality reading on the meter was spiking off the charts. I move it a little more and would go away. The satellite I have the best signal in North Carolina is 91w. SQ is around 85% on an 8 foot mesh dish. Could this be some sort of interference getting into the dish?
Re: Finding Sats
look for the real South of you and which sat is close to pick
Re: Finding Sats
Were you pointing at the sun at that point, or one of the planets.
Even just the tip of a tree will spike your signal.
I find I have sats drop out for 10-20 minutes at odd times of the day as something is passing behind them.

Dishes; 3x3m, 2.4m and 4.1m, 10+ ku, 2 movers, USARLS. V8 Combo, Pro, V8 Golden, Nova V8Pro2, GTC, Super.V7HDs, Combo and V7s V7Plus Finder, Finder-Meter V8X / UHD V7Pro GT/XCombo. Sats 100.5E to 177W. I'm a Sat hobbyist who helps out.
Re: Finding Sats
I was trying to peak my satellite and according to a tvro site there are two transponders that have channels on them. I get 11705 V, which is music, but I do not get 11820 H which is a pentagon channel according to the chart. Is this channel still there?
Re: Finding Sats
No the Pentagon Channel is not on SES1 101w
Music Channels on 11704 V 3648 (Radio)
At this time there are color bars up on 11754 H 5397
Re: Finding Sats
I switched my ku lnb to the c band lnb and I am not getting all the transponders on 101w. I get a few but the sq is lower than the other satellites. I think my next door neighbors house is in the way and I may have to raise my dish. I have included some pics to get your opinions.

Re: Finding Sats
Check your F/d ratio and feedhorn alignment. The signal should be better than that for C-band and an 8' dish. I had an 8.5' dish with an actuator, and got everything approx 72deg to 135deg in the C-band spectrum.
Only issue you always get is the spring fall solstice solar outage.
As other have stated tweaking the skew properly will more like likely affect all channels. The reason the higher channel drop off is signal attenuates with increase in frequency. I maybe new to digital but analog/digital C-band 25+years.
Back when the dish went together, the way the manufacturer recommended was to bring all the support arms together so all the arms were the same length, thereby making feedhorn point to direct center.
Hope that helps.

Re: Finding Sats
Also KU is easier to get with an 8' dish, Ku with 8' dish is like C-band at 15'+. Also I don't see the house in the way your elevation for NC would be pointing up enough to not have a real impact.
It would have been a bigger problem if your neighbor had pine trees on your shared boundary. Wet pine needles are a microwave dampener (signal absorption).
