Hi I got my V8Ultra today.

Comments:

It has a 4k output setting.
It does multistream, ABC SBS Australia off eutelsat172B@172e.
I have no 4:2:2 feed to test on.
Has zoom button.
Running on cable net, says has "no network Interface" when I click on Wifi in network settings.
Has a menu "Manually set last Wifi type", there are 14 types to choose.

It locked up on Eutelsat172B@172e TP 12612H3000 and crashed on 2 of 5 TP scans for that TP.
Normal TP with FTA and $$$ channels on it.
Reports un named channels as Unnamed, not SID numbers.

The move channel function is not in Favorites list, The Sat button only brings up satellite in TV channel move Menu.
Needed to move the channels in their satellite list and then add them to fav list.

NO BISS
NO PowerVu.
NO CS menu, No menu to add keys. No Auto BISS.
This may be hidden or a function of the built in "FunCam".
Funcam may not work for me as I'm not in Europe.

NO AAC SOUND!!
All NZ DVB-T channels use this and some of the FTA Satellite channels too.

Weather app knew where I was!! City not just country!

User data save does not save any file.
No ALL code save, so can not save current software.

ALL those things you do not want on are set on from factory, HDMI CEC, Parental lock, Subtitles, LCN.
Set up the menus first to save a mess later.

DVB-T has no set up for country, must use that knows where it is thing.
Not yet scanned in DVB-T.

No Channel Encryption type is shown. B, PV, I, T.
No Channel resolution is shown (1808i, 576) just HD for any H264 or better channels.

The remote has a button "Motor" that brings up a motor control menu?


Over all OK.
A few tings to sort. CS menu and Favs moving.
Would be nice to have a three column channel list.

A big one.

NO AAC sound!!

Or the newer HEAAC sound that my local channels use for their 1080HD channels.
This means that over half my local FTA channels have NO sound!

4k video and no codex for AAC audio???

Seller sent .pdf with advise to upgrade the software to activate funcam.

OK so AAC sound restored.

Now the remote will power off but not ON.
Other GT Media remotes work.

Before software change.
GT Media remote power button did not act on the Freesat V8Ultra.
GT Media remote Sat button did not act on the Freesat V8Ultra.
Most other GT Media buttons did work the Ultra.

Now the Ultra Power button does not work to power ON the Ultra.
The Ultra now responds to the GT media Sat button and power button.

CS menu is in the Network menu, does nothing when pressed.
No BISS PV T channels.
More apps in the apps menu.

ODD thing with the channel lists.
If you select a satellite and then press favorites, you only see the channels from that satellite in the favorites list.
The only way to see all the channels you have added to your favorites list is to press sat and select All Satellites.

While in the favorites list, pressing sat and selecting a satellite to go to, just cuts the favorites list to the favorites for that satellite, not the full satellite list.

Still will not scan 12612H30000 of Eutelsat172@172e.

The remote control turning on is a bug in the latest version of M A R S as well.

Hi

After I did the software change, my added sats were still on the list and the channels numbers with no content were there assigned to another sat.
I deleted them.

I tried another User data save and then a User Data Load.
After that most channels and sats were gone, so I did a Reset.

Great News!!!
Now I have access to the CS menu.
The settings menu has three time more options.
Auto BISS is now active.


So

Please all!
After changing to the FunCam software, do a Reset

Reset is in the Installation menu, do "ALL" reset.

FunCam software has channel resolution and CAID (Biss PV T) shown.

The remote control turning on is a bug in the latest version of M A R S as well.
It works with another infrared remote control.

It looks like the remote that comes with the V8Ultra has a new set of commands, new to all GT Media command sets.
They then have another set of remote commands that the Ultra "Sees", the GT Media remote.

The first error was that that GT Media set had the satellite button command for their new Ultra remote.
The SAT button on the GT Media remote did not work. (Many GT Media remotes did not have a sat button)

They fixed that and the SAT button on the GT Media remote now works as does the SAT button on the Ultra remote works.
While they did this they changed the power button, as received in the Ultra from the Ultra remote, to the GT Media remote, as the default Ultra remote control set, so while powered on the GT Media and Ultra set are "Seen", but for power on only the Ultra set is "Seen" and that set now has the GT Media power button code, not the new Ultra remote control command.
The Ultra power button command must now be stored in the GT Media set as it works to turn off the unit, or the power button command set in the "Power on from stand by" is now set wrongly to the GT Media command.

I did once see these command sets in the file that comes inside the GT Combo.zip 700Mb upgrade files.

More on remotes.
As the color buttons on the Ultra remote are used for other things, Blue INFO and Yellow Pause, The GT Media remote gives different results for those color buttons.

From watching channel with GT Media remote.
Blue: Event Timer.
Yellow: PVR play back
Red green no response.

Down page button brings up Key code entry and allows there yellow for PID edit.
Key edit shows the current key.

The V8Ultra unit lock on the scan of a TP
Eytelsat172B@172e 12612H30000

It will stay scanning for ever or crash the unit.

I have found the PID edit function on this unit, press down page from the channel, then yellow.
This PID edit allow for ONLY FOUR Decimal number, not the five needed for this TP.

EG
Channel: Euronews FTA
SID: 29 (001D Hex)
VPID: 529 ( 0211 Hex)
APID: 33597 (833D Hex)

All the channels on this TP use 5 digit Dec APID numbers.
If what I think is happening is the unit can not save these channels due to it trying to save only four Dec digits for the APID and sometimes crashes and reboots due to the user file being corrupted by this.

I tried to make channels with the PID edit with incorrect APIDs but all other correct, but the V8Ultra report "No Service".

I had issues with getting Wifi to work with the Ultra.

Most Wifi software shows all Wifi around you, even the weak signals.

The V8 Ultra does not, it only shows those good enough to connect to.
I had to relocate the unit to get / see signal.

The Wifi antenna is a small wire on the circuit board. See attached Pic.
Note this antenna is at the side of the box as looked at from the front.

Note there is a RS232 connection, like other GT Media units, inside the unit.
It is the white plug beside the HDMI connection.

The "U13" IC is the component used for the programming clip which is cheaper and safer than using the RS232 cable.

You cannot activate M.rs on this decoder, only Funcam

If you have support with M A R S, contact a seller and they will give you support

Freesat V8 Ultra can't support M A R S activation, BoxID format is 12 digits (25xxxxxxxxxx)
To activate M A R S, the Box ID must be with 10 digits as GTmedia devices have it (V8 UHD, V8 X, V7 Pro)
