New V8 Finder 2 shows no signal
I unboxed my new V8 Finder 2 and I first familiarised myself with the device a little. With some exception, everything worked.
To achieve immediate success, I used my working satellite system with the Astra satellite used here in Germany. And the built in database in the V8. No modifications to the satellite nor transponders.
My TV shows me full signal strength and 9.8 dB quality.
I disconnected the antenna cable from the TV and connected it to the finder:
The bar for the signal strength showed a deflection, but the quality remained at 0.
A scan over the satellite's transponders also failed to find any channels.
What's going wrong? Is the device possibly defective?
Furthermore: The "Loop" button shows no effect in no menu. What is it for?
Any advice is appreciated.

It is a DVB-S signal meter if you check the DVB-T television does not have a tuner
Loop search you will see several TP signals on the same screen

As I wrote, I have a satellite system. No DVB-T.
Loop search I have understood. But the button has no function. Not in any menu.

The V8 Finder 2 is for satellite, for dvb-T it is the V8Finder Pro

Check that the satellite is correct, also that the frequency and bit rate is correct, then you will see the signal

Re: New V8 Finder 2 shows no signal
Did you set up the satellite for LNB frequency and any switch settings as well.
There is an option in menus for LNB power OFF, check that is set "ON".
The loop function may not open until there are saved TP's in the satellite list.
It then gives an option for which TP' you want to loop search.
If you have a tone type finder (the ones with the moving needle) place that in the LNB cable so you can see if there is 13 / 18 v and if 22kHz is on.
You say you "disconnected the antenna cable from the TV and connected it to the finder:"
I then assume your TV does satellite internally, it has a DVB-S receiver.
Most people use a set top box for DVB-S, so I would have expected your comment to be, I disconnected the antenna cable from the STB and connected it to the finder:
The word "Antenna" is most associated with UHF TV DVB-T.
The word "Dish" is for satellite.
That is our confusion.

Dear Owen,
Thank you for your reply.
Sorry for the confusion, with antenna I mean of course the dish, satellite system I wrote.
I will continue to test, but apologize that it takes a while, because I am busy until the middle of next week in a commission from early in the morning until late at night and cannot test. I will come back to this later.

Re: New V8 Finder 2 shows no signal
Hello,
I want to resume the issue.
During weekend I had the opportunity to further testing.
Again: My satellite system is a DVB-S2 with 80 cm dish, LNB with one unicable and two legacy outputs. I used one of the legacy outputs that gave me a fantastic signal for years on the TV. On TV Signal Quality is near 100%.
What did I do?
First I prepared the V8 Finder 2 in so far as I chose the
- Astra 19.2 E,
- LNB Ku(9750-10600)
- DiSEqC1.0 disable
- DiSEqC1.1 disable
- 22k Auto
- LNB Power Auto
- No Motor
I then, by means of a current List, deleted all TP with no signal or with encrypted signal. Remaining preferably common tv stations here in Germany. PLSN 0 in each case.
I connected the cable from my TV to the finder.
Then I tried a global scan over the Astra satellite as well as an individual scan regarding a specific TP.
No success! No lock! I only get a more or less signal strength, no Quality and no stations are found.
The only conclusion for me, besides a faulty control of the LNB, what I do not assume, is a defective tuner.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: New V8 Finder 2 shows no signal
The problem is recognized.
I had the opportunity to borrow an identical second device from a friend who is a radio amateur like me.
This immediately displayed quality of the signal and the image of the satellite.
Result: My device is broken.
How do we proceed? Warranty!!

The way is to return it to those you brought it from.hageha wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:08 pmThe problem is recognized.

When you did the test, did you compare the two units for having the same settings?

Yes, of course.
Furthermore, I tested only one TP of Astra with both instruments. My device only failed.

Re: New V8 Finder 2 shows no signal
If you can not return it to where you purchased it, shipping costs can make this not worth it, open it and have a look at the lnb input area, and inside the RF shield for and solder splashes ect.
