V8 Finder 2(P) connecting to Astra 19.2

Post by SatNewbie »

I'm stuck with the installation of a new flat Humax Sat Dish to the Astra 19.2 satellite.

I get a signal strength of 74% but never a stable quality reading, or anything above 9% or a Lock.
I used a Dish finder App and controlled it with a compass und a protractor. I could not improve signal strength finetuning with the V8 Finder attached.

I tried a different satellite (Thor 4.5.6) to see whether the v8 Finder or the Dish might be broken (both are brand new). I got a lower signal strength but a good quality reading, and after a scan could watch Norwegian TV.

So I guess I'm missing something?

You haven't aligned it with Astra, keep looking for the satellite
Forget about the strength value and the PWR
Look at the MER that is greater than 12dB, then you will get an approximate C/N of 15dB
The most important thing is that the MER is as high as possible

You may have already done this, check (Dish Pointer), you may have locked into 21e / 16e, check on (Flysat), find a transponder that is on 19e and
is not on 16e or 21e. Then try again.
Hope this helps

Also remember as you move your dish from 0.8w to 19.2e you also need to adjust the skew of the LNB if your dish is not on a polar mount.

If your move your dish by rotating it on the pole then you need to set the LNB skew as per the setting you get from dishpointer.
If your dish moves by a pivot that is angled for your latitude, then the LNB skew will stay the same as the dish moves.

Dishes; 2x3m, 4.1m, 10+ ku, 2 movers, USARLS. V8Pro2, GTC, Finder2 + Pro1, Finder-Meter V8X / UHD V7Pro GT/X Combo, Freesat V8Ultra. Sats 100.5E to 177W. I'm a Sat hobbyist who helps out.

The LNB is inside, so you have to rotate the antenna with the proper polarization
