Gtmedia X8 combo only green light
Hello everyone, My Gtmedia X8 combo satellite receiver no longer starts. No display on the LCD panel, just the green LED shining. I tried the forcing method with a USB stick, nothing. Because once the firmware is installed on the USB key, insert it on the receiver. The USB key LED does not flash. What to do ? I need your help. Because I searched all the forums and no solution. Thanks in advance

Re: Gtmedia X8 combo only green light
Try another USB.
Try another power supply too, 12V 1.5A or 2A.
Here are my notes on flash.bin recovery
The GT Media instructions on forced recovery are here.
flash.bin recovery is done like this.
Place a copy of the unpacked software (the .bin file) on a USB stick and rename it "flash.bin"
With the USB in the unit, power on while repeat pressing "Menu" on the remote.
The unit should reload the software.
Also other users say that you must use a USB stick, not a card holder etc and that stick must be 32Gb or under.
Use the rear USB port on units that have two ports.
I have had units that will not recover.
Try using the same software as was in the unit when it crashed, not the new update software.
You must use the correct software, ie that for the V7HD for the V7HD etc, not software for any other freesat units.
Try even older software as the file for flash.bin.
Look at the LED in the USB stick. When the TV shows the message "USB Upgrade, do not turn off" you should see the LED on the USB flash as the file is loaded.
The USB LED should also flash a few times as the unit first powers on and looks at it.
Also users have said to use the rear USB port for this on V8 units.
New information: Users are reporting that naming the file "Flash.bin" with a capital has worked where "flash.bin" has not. This is with the Nova units mostly.

I found that a USB stick with a lot (more than 30+) .bin files on it, my UHD unit would not show the new software file in the menus.
This suggests that having too many .bin files on the USB stick can also be a problem.
I moved most of the file into a folder and it then showed the file.
Keep only one or two files in the main directory.

Good luck
There have been user that recover their unit after removing the wifi board, or just cut the 5v power to the board.

Re: Gtmedia X8 combo only green light
Ok, thank you already for your quick response. The USB key I used had a capacity of 32Gb. And I had it on the back port. Because there is only one. I think maybe I don't have the correct ".bin" forcing file for the X8 Combo. And I tried to look at the forcing link you put. The one for my X8 Combo receiver is not there. And I think I can't try with the flash of another receiver model. If anyone can have it here, please give it to me? So I would try. After changing 12V power supply and USB key.

Are you using the .bin file, not the .zip folder to rename flash.bin.
check there is 5V on the USB connection, test with some device, fan or small phone.

I used the ".bin" file.
There is actually 5V on the USB port. I checked it with a small 5V fan and using a multimeter.

Re: Gtmedia X8 combo only green light
OK thanks. I will change the USB stick. Excuse me, the file in question is the one in the parent ".zip" folder after decompression? Because after decompressing the ".zip" folder I have an unzip folder containing two files. In which one in "txt" format and the other in ".bin" format. So if I understand you correctly. - First, I only recover the file in ".bin" format which I copy to the USB key. By naming it "Flash.bin" or simply "Flash" because it is already in ".bin" format. - Secondly, is the syntax of "Flash" uppercase or lowercase? Because I read on some posts where it is mentioned that the “F” must be capitalized.

Yes, Assuming you have original firmware on your box everything is as you mentioned. Use the.bin file rename to flash or Flash (.bin will be auto already on file)

Re: Gtmedia X8 combo only green light
Flash.bin is a rare use that some boxes had with their early software.
Use flash.bin lower case.
Also do not have too many files on the USB main directory, less than 20.
Also do you have the remote that came with the unit?
If you have other GT Media remotes, try the menu button on them.
A later versions of the software added the use of other formatted GT Media remotes, like the V7's added the use of the V8 remotes.
The flash.bin "Menu" press will not use that added remote format software, just the original, which I hope is the remote they supplied with the unit.
Also look at the IR LED on the remote through a digital camera, you should see it flashing.
