The compass in the smartphone is fully functional.
On Android 7 redmi note 4x the compass rotates.

The compass on the V8 Finder is a magnetic manual compass.
I too see that it does not work.
No surprise that it does not work with electromagnetic electronics working under it.

If you need a compass, use an external one.

I think the manual compass on the V8 Finder was a nice idea, but it will never work with magnetic material around it.
Looking a dishpointer dot com will help with direction when setting up a dish.

Not 100% which finder is being referenced here, I have the finder Pro and magnetic compass does not work on it. Just another issue with that finder I am afraid. Typically I use the built in compass on my phone to help with alignment.

Pity though that the built in compass is not fit for purpose …….

The compass is a small help to know the direction of a satellite that is not exact, the magnetism is not the same as the geographic one that is correct.
I prefer to orient myself with the Sun knowing the time and the azimuth I locate it quickly, with the altitude and polarization I get a good alignment in five seconds
