GTMEDIA V8 FINDER 2 power supply while on problem

Post by SpyLand »

Another problem I found, I can't use the charger/power supply at the same time the finder is on as keeps rebooting with the GTMEDIA boot logo and nothing else.
This is really bad as can't be used as normal SAT receiver since the battery goes low quickly.

Also there is no way to disable the internal sound while using the finder as a receiver and connected to a TV trough the HDMI cable.
Sound is always coming out of the internal speaker.

Any comments on this or ideias?

Hi

First the charging

I also found this rebooting on charge.
The unit can take 5 volt and 9 volt input via the C type connection.
On 5 volt it will reboot, on 9 volt it does not.
Get a C type adaptor to run on charge.
NOTE:
A 12v car adaptor C type output that has two sockets will make both sockets 9 volts if one is 9 volts.
Do not plug in 5 volt normal USB charge items like a phone while the other plug is running 9 volts.

regard the sound.
I plugged in a 3.5mm AV cable to cut the sound from the unit speaker while using on HDMI with my older finders.
Try that.
The Finder2 has a AV on off button so it may not work.
I will try myself later.

Humm... do you mean getting a 9V 2A power supply for example and use an USB C plug adapter?

The car one running on 12V car adaptor I didn't understand. Are you talking of an special 12V to 9V car adaptor and not a normal phone charger?
Something like this for example:

The car lighter socket thing like this
Image

Yes with a USB C charger will offer 9v to the finder while a standard USB will only do 5v.
You can buy USB C output plugs to fit your wall sockets too.

The reboot thing is because you are using a standard USB port 5v charging.

I just tested with my USB C phone charger that is a 65W SuperVOOC 2.0, but still no go. I get reboots while the finder is on and the charger connected at the same time.

Maybe this special electronic charges that I eared they negotiate the charging protocol drops to standard 5V since it could not receive any info from the finder.

In 9v charge mode it shows a constant LED and goes blue when charged I think from memory.

The charge LED should act differently in 9v to 5v.

That means your USB C charger is only charging at 5 volts.

Check that you have a C type charger, not just a C type cable.

It's not a USB C cable only, it's from the phone brand and the cable is fixed on it.

I think since communicates with the phone needs some sort of voltage negotiation and since the finder doesn't have that it backs to the normal 5V.

This is what I found on wikipedia regarding this model of phone charger:

SuperVOOC 2.0 (2020), a successor of Super VOOC with 10 V/6.5 A (65W), its also the first charger to introduce GaN technology (Gallium Nitride).
SuperVOOC 2.0 (2020) is supported by OPPO Find X2, OPPO Find X3, OPPO Reno 4 Pro, Realme 7 Pro, Realme 8 Pro, Reno 5, Reno 5 Pro, Realme GT Master Edition
Fast Charge:Support SuperVOOC 2.0(10V/6A)、SuperVOOC(10V/6A)、PD(9V/2A)、QC(9V/2A)VOOC fast charge protocols

When I use this charger with other phone brands also it charges them at normal speed so I gess at 5V, on my phone, the one that the charger belongs I get full charge in 30m to 40m.

Yes I too think there is communication to decide what voltage to send.

The car charger I got works OK.

It may be the phone charger does not talk the same as the finder, and like you say reverts to default 5v.
The tech guy I brought my charger and cable from went through many cables saying that one is data only.
It may also be about the cable and the current.
Your phone charger may only provide 1A while the finder is trying to take 2A, so defaults to 5v.

This USB C type is a whole new system. I'm still learning.

Well, bad news regarding this problem and it looks like this unit is really faulty.

I tested my phone charger on another finder 2 from a friend that just receive it now and works on his model, also he bought the full package with cover and charger and his charger that came works on his unit but gives the same problem on mine.

Different things I notice between these finders:

1- Hardware version on the information menu is not the same, also another firmware.
2- The LCD image is much brighter and the text sharper so really white easier to read without the problems I report on another thread of fuzziness and so on.

Going to do further tests and take a photo of the information screen from bought finders and post here later, also going to flash on my finder the same firmware version that came on my friend finder.

I also found that the LCD screen was the type that if you look from below the screen the image is bad.
They may have used a different LCD screen on the later hardware version and also changed the text size to correct for pixel / display line count that looked to be the issue.

Your unit may still not work on the charger if it is low battery, it may still take too much current.
Try it again when charged.
Is the battery still spec'd as 3.7v 5000mAh on the new hardware ?

Ok, tests finished and this is the results:

1- The different hardware versions it's a fake information since after upgrading the same firmware on both finders that also became identical.
My friend finder:

And this is my finder:

After downgrading my finder to the same version of my friend we can see as I said that the hardware version becomes the same (mine on the right):

2- Also on this last photo we can see the difference and quality on the LCDs as I said before.

3- The power supply problems disappear after I bought this charger from one official GTmedia webshop:
