Help with fine tuning my LNB with V8 finder BT03

Post by elprofesor »

Hello GTMEDIA team,

I have a V8 finder BT03 and I would like to use it to maximize the quality and strength of the signal of my dish pointing to Eutelsat 16E for specific transponders. What is the best way to do it using the specific device as I don't have previous experience? Do I need to rotate the LNB until the reported metrics are maximized for all the transponders interested? DISHPOINTER DOT COM indicates an optimal LNB skew based on my location but I am not sure how accurate it is. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks and best regards!

The (dishpointer) web site is a good site, in getting your dish set up, depending on your location, it will give you all the information required.
You will have to find the strongest / weakest transponders for the satellite required, with your lnb fitted to your finder, view the TV seeing the signal on the screen, when you face the dish, move the lnb a little left / right (skew), the signal should go up/down, also you may have to move the lnb within the holder towards the face of the dish, do this first on a strong signal, then after that on a weak signal till you get it to peak signal.
If you are able to stand behind the dish, with your hand on the rim of the dish on the right, just move it a little, see if the the signal moves, do the same at the bottom of the dish and see what the signal is like doing that.
It will be trial and error, at some point you may have to make adjustments to your dish, when all is done tighten the nuts of the dish, but keeping a
eye on the signal level on the TV screen, hold the dish in place when doing the nuts.
Good Luck with your task.

Dear Den,

Many thanks for the detailed explanation, really appreciated. Really interesting information about the LNB tuning that will be definitely useful moving forward. However, since the dish is already pointing to the correct satellite, I am assuming that I don't need to change anything for the elevation and azimuth settings when adjusting the LNB skew?

Many thanks and best regards!

Some receivers/finder are not very sensitive, so signal may be low, with some transponders not locking.
i have a few receivers, with different results even on a strong signal, just try and see what you get with just tweaking the dish with your hands.
Also it is best to get a good lnb, some lnb's are better than others.
Depending on what your system is, what your location is within the (footprint), if you can put up a 100/110cm dish with one of these LNB'S, you should see better signal level's.

Dear Den,

Many thanks for your help, I appreciate it. Will give it a go on the weekend based on your instructions and hopefully I will manage to fine-tune it.

Best regards!
