What channels (transponder) from what satellite, plus what software do you have.

To ensure stable PowerVu key roll on V7 Pro, it is necessary to check important settings such as Internet connection, system time, region, PowerVu server information, correct key entry, FEC, SR, Polarity and Diseqc. Updating to the latest firmware is also important to fix bugs and improve performance. In addition, cleaning the device, checking the antenna and trying with a different channel are also necessary steps.

Re: Keys -no reception

Post by TVROCanada »

Hello,
I am a new GT Media STB (Set Top Box) user. I have both the V8 Finder 2 and V9 Prime models.
I have 20 year experience with TVRO (Televison Receive Only) on C Band and Ku Band.

However I have no experience on the new methods of Auto Role , IKS etc. I have only experience with the very old encryption methods that were broken 20 yes ago and then improved to be secure.

There seems to be less help on this Group for those in North America. I have also found a lack of information on many of the STB settings. This is understandable due to the sensitive nature of rules. I hope have a regular post that will point out various settings, glitches and questions new users may have.

One thing I have noticed is that it is important to have strong signal strength and quality for your auto roll "channels" to become ITC (In The Clear=not scrambled) .

You may even have a satellite that has a ITC , strong picture on one Transponder (satellite downlink frequency that is used for a group of channels ) BUT the Transponder next to it ( up or down in frequency) will not de-scramble. This may be due to differing bandwidths or data rates etc between the different Transponders. The more complex data rates (HD vs Sd for example) , the better S/N Ratio (Signal to Noise Ratio) is needed for de-scrambling to work.

I have never got a clear answer but I believe it is possible to also have a Bird (satellite) that can aim one transponder frequency to one area on the earth (its footprint) , or another area...Technically it should be possible, but I have never confirmed it from those with better knowledge. If possible, then you may have a strong signal for one TP (transponder) and weaker signal for another TP on the same satellite. Also, you may need a better signal quality depending on the data /encryption type/rate. Especially if you are getting interference from local sources OR a stronger competing satellite close by.

This is just my introduction and some info on why you may not get the auto roll or desscrambling to work on one TP but not another ...even if on the same bird.

Comments and corrections are most welcome.

With you been the other side of the pond, (cpr) will be the best to help you.
But first, with the equipment that you have got, what do you wish to do, with some more information, users will be able to help you
with using your receivers, with short cuts etc.

ps. it may have been better to post, making a new thread.

Hi

Yes things have changed over the years.

Satellites do have "Beams".
Newer sats have beams that can follow a ship at see.
Many have MANY beams that shine link a torch beam on small areas in the coverage.
Older sats transmission were like a light bulb in your house, they lit everywhere.
A web site like satbeams dot com shows this.
Look at the "Foot prints" to see the beams and coverage for each for each satellite.

Transponders also have changed.
Yes there are transmitted data formats that do need better signal quality.
I have one here that uses 8/9FEC.
Two weeks back they did some servicing on this service, Intelsat19@166e 12570V26810, and they dropped the FEC back to 3/4 so my 1.2m offset dish got it OK.
They went back to the 8/9 FEC and all I see again is quality on 1-3%.
I would need a 2.4m dish to get that.
Other frequencies can be affected by 5G cell phone transmission, those in the C band.

I wrote some things on BISS auto roll here this week.

Many Powervu channels have gone to Powervu+.
These can not be hacked.
I suspect they powervu encrypted the data twice.

There are also new transmission formats like Multistream and T2MI.
Multistream is a transmission of streams, 2, 4 or 5 streams, ready for retransmission via DVB-T from the terrestrial base.
T2MI needs second processing by a box that does it.
I now also see channels that are in some kind of Google internet format.

There are video formats that many boxes do not have like 4:2:2, 4k and 8k.
Sound formats too, like AC3 started some years back and some boxes do not have the codex for this.

These web sites may help.
