X1 remote issue
I received my X1 yesterday. So far so good for the most part. There's one strange issue with the remote. It seems to be sending multiple codes for several of the buttons. For example, hitting OK seems to send OK and DirectionRight. Hitting DirectionRight sends Right and a different code that mutes my receiver.
Is there a way to reprogram/reset the remote? Which set of ir codes does this device use?
Thanks!

Re: X1 remote issue
This happens when the remote batteries get low on the GT Combo Bluetooth remotes.
Change the batteries.
Or try unpairing the remote and use it in IR mode.
I assume the X1 remote does both like the GT Combo does.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try new batteries.
As for BT versus IR, it seems to be in IR mode now. I'm not sure how to pair it via Bluetooth. Are there any instructions for that?

Re: X1 remote issue
If the X1 is like the other Android units, in the main android menu / settings / remotes and accessories.
There it will search for devices.
On the GT Combo remote you press Menu AND down buttons at the same time to enter pairing mode.
The other way is in setting on the GT Combo there is "Setup Wizard" that will take you through all the initial setting, including the remote pairing while showing you what buttons to press to pair the remote.
If you need to skip the remote pairing in the setup wizard, press mouse button on the remote and move the pointer to the next option on the setup page and click. (Press mouse again to return to normal remote) A cable or Wifi mouse plugged into a USB port can move past this too. I found you are stuck in this menu if you do not use a mouse function to get past the remote pairing if you fail to pair the remote.

Re: X1 remote issue
Well, I appreciate the information, but unfortunately neither worked. New batteries in the remote didn't make a difference. DirectionRight still mutes my receiver. Hitting mute on the receiver remote does not cause the X1 box to move right, so I don't think they're just duplicate IR codes.
Holding menu and down doesn't appear to put this remote in to pairing mode. I tried holding those for up to 30 seconds, the box never found a Bluetooth device.

Re: X1 remote issue
Do you have other Bluetooth devices running close by?
Did you look for a setup wizard?
When the remote enters pairing mode the power LED will light bright and stay blinking for a while, even with no buttons pushed.
If that is happening then the issue is likely another Bluetooth thing blocking signal.
NOTE: these GT Media units can only have one Bluetooth device connected at once.
The GT Combo did have a remote control software upgrade.

It may be risky to do that app on your X1??
The first time you powered on and set up, do you remember what you did to pair the remote?
Likely you pushed some combination of buttons.
It looks to be the same remote as used on the GT Combo, so should be Menu and Down.
I just tested with my remote and after one menu and down press to trigger the pairing mode with the flashing LED, I could not trigger another pairing mode until I removed the batteries for 15 seconds.
Try that and the main android menu / settings / remotes and accessories again.

Re: X1 remote issue
No other Bluetooth devices
I did look for a setup wizard but didn't find one. On my device, the HDTVPlayer app was set to auto-launch. There was some intro associated with that app, but no other wizard. I went through the Android system settings to setup network, etc.
I didn't do anything to pair the remote. It's working via IR, so it was never paired via Bluetooth.
Just to be clear, you're saying that menu button (lower left of the dpad) and the dpad down buttons simultaneously will put the remote in to Bluetooth pairing mode. Really, just making sure you mean dpad down rather than the PG down or Volume down.
I guess unfortunately the x1 is different enough from the gt combo that it might not have the same features.
Again, thanks for trying to help. Greatly appreciated.

Re: X1 remote issue
It may be then that the X1 remote is not a Bluetooth function remote as it needed no setup / pairing.
That leaves us with IR remote issue.
If there is another IR transmitting, that can block the remote.
I had this with a micro floro light bulb that emitted so much IR for the first two minutes from power on that I could not use a IR remote.
Yes the pairing press is the inner circle down not the page or volume down.
GT Media make the same looking remote that does not have Bluetooth, so it is hard to know which one the X1 uses.
The Bluetooth pairing remotes have instruction on the back for Bluetooth pairing
That the issue is OK and right and those buttons are close to each other, it may be a fault inside the remote, the rubber backed contact could be touching both.
There may be dirt inside at that point.
You should be able to open the remote by prizing it apart with your two thumb nails along the crack along the sides.
There maybe a screw in the bottom of the battery compartment too, depending on the model remote.
You can then look at the back of the rubber buttons for extra contact material that is making contact with both OK and right.
Question:
Does this happen if you press the OK button gently on the left side only.
That may prove the point that there is a fault inside.
If you have any other GT Media remote, try them as most use the same codes.

Re: X1 remote issue
The main issue at this point is the Dpad right also causes the audio to mute. Hitting Right again then causes the audio to unmite.
Now, what I've discovered tonight is that it's not actually sending the mute code for my Onkyo receiver. It's sending mute to my Vizio TV. Since I have those connected with CEC enabled, it effectively mutes the receiver.
It's still strange that hitting mute on the TV remote does not cause the X1 box to move right.

Re: X1 remote issue
That sounds like the remote is sending code the same as for your other devices.
The code send through the HDMI CEC should be able to turn off.
If you do not use the TV remote, the TV just as a monitor, put black tape over the TV IR sensor.
Overlapping remotes is a real problem, I hate it.
The best thing I have done for that is to face one box right and the other left so I then reflect the IR commands off the right or left walls.
This is where a Bluetooth remote would have helped.
Most GT Media boxes will use more than one set of remote codes.
I think my GT Combo "Sees" the V8 remote and the V7 remote codes and they updated software for the V8 and V7 range so both remote worked.
There is a program for smart phones that send IR with a IR adapter in the 3.5mm audio socket, or the phones own IR sender if it has one.
With that you could set up the other GT Media remote code set and use that.

Re: X1 remote issue
The X1 remote is IR only. I tried to pair my xxx Android box BT remote and that did not work.
I think your remote issues are because you have CEC turn on. You need to adjust these settings in your Android 11 settings. Basically your X1 remote is being collected at the X1 box and transmitted through your HDMI cable to your TV and or Home Theater Receiver.

Re: X1 remote issue
I found this Bluetooth remote app works well with the X1 for a majority of functions. You need to pair your phone to the BT on the X1.

Re: X1 remote issue
According to your description, the remote control buttons seem to have signal conflicts or incorrect encoding mapping. Here are the step-by-step troubleshooting and solutions:Mjmiller17 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 11:35 pmI received my X1 yesterday. So far so good for the most part. Thanks!
1. Basic troubleshooting
Physical inspection
Confirm that there are no stuck keys, foreign objects or physical damage to the remote control buttons (especially around the direction keys).
Try to tap the back of the remote control to eliminate the possibility of poor internal contact.
Power supply problem
Replace the remote control batteries (low battery may cause unstable signals).
2. Device interference test
Isolate other devices
Temporarily turn off the CEC/infrared function of peripheral devices such as receivers, TVs, and speakers (to prevent signal crosstalk).
Test the performance of the remote control when "X1 only" is turned on to confirm whether the external device misreads the signal.
Infrared signal test (if applicable)
Aim the mobile phone camera at the infrared transmitter of the remote control, press the problem button, and observe whether it emits abnormal flashing light (normal should be a single flash).
If multiple flashes are found, it means that the remote control hardware may be faulty.
