QAM tuning problem

Post by juanperez »

My HDTV Converter X1 device does not detect any QAM channel whatsoever, even if I select the "QAM-B Full Scan" option in the HDTVPlayer app. Besides, apparently the tuner only scans 35 frequencies, because it says: "Searching n/35 R(s)", but I have 55 channels going from 57MHz to 627MHz.

The QAM signal itself is OK because I can tune the channels just fine in a cheap 28 inch Daytron TV (DLED-28D1).

Another thing is that I can't find how to add the QAM channels manually either even if I know their frequencies, because apparently the HDTV interface only allows adding manually ATSC channels, which I don't need.

Notice this is all after upgrading to latest firmware (X1_v1.0_Y410.A11.1.6_20250519) and then performing a factory reset, uninstalling HDTVPlayer app and installing latest version (HDTVPlayer-42.2.42_apk) that I have been able to find in this site, which is what the QR in the device points to for official support.

I purchased this device precisely in order to tune QAM channels to display in my larger 43 inch Pioneer XumoTV (which doesn't include a QAM tuner), but I now feel very frustrated because even though the GTMedia device claims to support QAM tuning, I cannot get it to work.

Please, help.

I said "If not update from here....." . If you already on latest is fine. if the system works fine before doing the update try to roll back to the previous version until the next one. lets wait till someone with same problem helps

The device had exactly this same problem running the firmware version it came with, which is precisely why I upgraded.
Also, what variant of QAM does the device support, 64-QAM, 256-QAM? Both? I haven't been able to find technical specifications.

The scan only goes to RF 35 during a QAM-B scan. As far as I know, US Cable goes to 135 but it appears that it may actually go all the way up to 158.

How can I scan the rest of the QAM Channels?

No reply or solution back then.

Well .. Apparently the issue remains even more than one year later.

In any case, I have made some other tests: I was unaware than from the manual scan you could switch to QAM-B using the green button on the remote. And what I found this way is that even though signal strength is close to full, quality remains at zero regardless of the frequency. Isn't there a way to make the tuner skip quality or at least be more tolerant? Because as I said channels are found in a cheap TV, using the exact same cable.

Try restarting your box, then go to that scan option again.
I find this sometimes helps on my Android GT Combo box when it reports zero quality.

I have already tried this, many times. Also forcing stop of HDTVPlayer app, clearing cache and launching it, even performing a factory reset to the device.

Now reading other posts I notice this, could you please elaborate as if I was an elementary school student? :D

Ground the outer of the antenna cable at the X1 too as most of these small power supplies pass NO grounding to the receiver.
That makes the TV the next ground via the HDMI cable and adds noise to the ground outer of the antenna cable.

Noise from the TV and other things in the room may have been grounding via the antenna cable to the amp.

That was advice to a user that had issues with ground currents, like lightning or leakage from other things.
If I remember their issue was found as a faulty cable end at the antenna.

Is there other country options for the QAN-b?
Like country options give different frequency lists for DVB-T?

I haven't been able to find any reference to region other than when configuring the timezone, which I doubt is related to the Tuner.
