There is an instruction on the download page / other called RS232 recovery for V8 Finder.

Maybe you have a clone unit.
In the anouncments sectionthere is a post on clones and how to tell.
The later model Freesat V8 Finder had no battery cover.
It also had a blue LED for the lock light.
It will look different inside to the first model.
